Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. announced today that it has entered into a definitive merger agreement under which Health Care REIT, Inc. will acquire all of the outstanding common stock of Sunrise for $14.50 per share in an all-cash transaction.
Genzyme, a Sanofi company, announced today that the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration has approved Lemtrada (alemtuzumab) for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis for patients with active disease defined by clinical or imaging features to slow the accumulation of physical disability and reduce the frequency of clinical relapses.
Today, the Ben and Catherine Ivy Foundation (Ivy Foundation), announced that it is funding roughly $10 million for four new patient-focused research projects. As with all Ivy Foundation awards, these projects focus on improving the survival and quality of life for people with brain tumors but also specifically address new strategies to improve treatment development.
New figures released by the Health Protection Agency show that the number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other conditions diagnosed in genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics in the UK increased by 3% between 2004 and 2005.
The measures would force hospitals to maintain lower nurse-to-patient ratios to try to reduce workload on nurses and to provide better care. Hospitals say the moves would be too expensive.
