Beta blockers have become a prescription drug staple for recovering heart attack patients. However, these blood pressure-reducing medications cannot be tolerated by many patients who are at higher risk for developing cardiovascular disease, including those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma, the elderly, and diabetics.
Expanding the opportunity for younger Americans to get insurance coverage is a top priority for the Administration. Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing was more sensitive than traditional Pap smears at detecting precancerous lesions of the cervix, a study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute reports.
The Wall Street Journal reports on a "dramatic shift in attitudes" as the majority of those polled support President Barack Obama's 10-year plan, which includes federal spending reductions that would touch Medicare and other entitlement programs.
A study carried out by Spanish scientists shows that cocaine users who take other addictive substances demonstrate a higher risk of mental health problems.
