MN Community Measurement today announced that Regions Hospital has been selected by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to participate in a new effort to improve the quality - and equality - of cardiac care delivered in hospitals. The Aligning Forces for Quality: Equity Quality Improvement Collaborative (Equity QI Collaborative) will identify and test ways for hospitals to improve the quality and efficiency of their cardiac care, while also identifying and reducing any racial and ethnic disparities.

Neuronal Ceroid Liposfuscinosis (NCL), often referred to as Batten disease, is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that afflicts infants and young children. NCL is caused by a deficiency of a lysosomal enzyme, and is a relatively rare disease, affecting an estimated 2 to 4 of every 100,000 babies born in the U.S. Although NCLs are classified as rare diseases, they often affect more than one child in families that carry the defective gene, and tragically, are always fatal.
Recent technological innovations which have allowed plasma to be generated at room temperature and at ambient atmosphere in what is called non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma (NTAPP) have given scientists from Japan the opportunity to apply the therapeutic properties of this "fourth state of matter" to bone regeneration.
