The US is facing many challenges in controlling the childhood obesity epidemic. Despite recent efforts and some progress, one third of US children are still overweight or obese. Scientists in Nottingham are leading an international study to investigate the effectiveness of a new treatment on a devastating type of stroke.
Florida Hospital today announced it's the first in the United States to implement the Babyleo TN500 IncuWarmer beds from Draeger, Inc., a world leader in medical technology. With an estimated 15 million babies born preterm annually according to the World Health Organization, this technology is critically important for both babies and families. The beds are in use in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) at three hospitals across the health system in Central Florida.
Scientists at Trinity College Dublin have made an important advance in understanding the biological factors that keep the lining of the gut wall intact. Associate Professor, Maria O'Sullivan at Trinity's School of Medicine and St James's Hospital and colleagues, showed that changes in specific proteins may contribute to a 'leaky-gut' wall which may have important implications for common chronic digestive diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.
