A retrospective study of almost 39,000 patients shows that opportunities to diagnose chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at an earlier stage are frequently being missed in both primary and secondary care in the UK. The findings, published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, reveal missed opportunities to diagnose COPD occurred in up to 85% of people.
An international team of scientists, of which the University of Granada (UGR) is a member, has developed a new nanoparticle-based artificial retina prosthesis that can be injected into the eye.
When investigators analyzed primary sludge collected during the first wave of COVID-19 (March 19 to June 30, 2020) at a wastewater treatment plant in Connecticut, they found trends in the presence of chemicals that related directly to the pandemic-;for example, hydroxychloroquine had elevated concentrations in the week following Emergency Use Authorization of the drug for the treatment of COVID-19.
