El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California has enrolled the first patient in a safety study using the RenovoCath, a new catheter that is being introduced for targeted delivery of fluids to selected sites in the peripheral vascular system. The study will help physicians determine appropriate dosing of locally-delivered chemotherapy for patients with pancreatic cancer.
A new mathematical simulation approach predicts the efficacy of pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medications, which help prevent HIV infection. The framework, presented in PLOS Computational Biology by Sulav Duwal and Max von Kleist of Freie Universität Berlin and colleagues, could help streamline development of new PrEP treatments.
Ventana Medical Systems, Inc., a member of the Roche Group, received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the Companion Algorithm ER (SP1) image analysis algorithm used with the VENTANA iScan Coreo scanner running Virtuoso software.
