Eurofins MWG Operon, one of the pioneers and key providers of next generation sequencing (NGS), has added an Illumina HiSeq 2500 and an Illumina MiSeq sequencer to its fleet of NGS sequencers.
Following the 2018 Nobel Prize for Medicine, global attention is now more than ever turned toward the promise of immunotherapy in oncology. An international team's work has shed new light on a molecule called TIM-3 that might play a key role in the regulation of the immune response.
An innovative new technique of partial breast irradiation for early stage breast cancer has been developed in Canada. This technique, a world first, was presented at the annual scientific meeting of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists this week.
New research from the University of California, San Diego Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, shows that the anti-rejection drug sirolimus (brand name Rapamune) may help prolong the clinical benefit of transplanted kidneys and delay rejection, especially in patients who do not regularly take their prescribed medications (are "non-compliant"). While the transplant field has been highly successful at reducing rejection and graft loss in the first year, post-transplant, reducing risk for graft rejection in the long-term has proved more difficult.
Liquid crystals are familiar to most of us as the somewhat humdrum stuff used to make computer displays and TVs. Even for scientists, it has not been easy to find other ways of using them.
