Breast cancer treatment could be revolutionized with patients offered more accurate diagnoses and better-targeted treatments after a study in which scientists genetically charted the disease. The research found that rather than being a single disease, breast cancer can be classified into 10 distinct types. It also identified several new genes that determine the aggressiveness of the cancer.

To better understand the organization of the brain and the perceptual tendencies in humans, a team of four scientists are recording video from four head-mounted cameras - with eyetracking and head movement - and assembling a massive video database with more than 240 hours of first-person video that can be used by researchers everywhere.
DURECT Corporation today reported that King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Pain Therapeutics, Inc. have announced that King has resubmitted a New Drug Application (NDA) for REMOXY® to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in response to a Complete Response Letter received by Pain Therapeutics in December 2008. This is a Class 2 resubmission with a six month review cycle.
Like other data-driven organizations, healthcare networks are vulnerable to potentially crippling cyberattacks - but may lag behind other sectors in preparing for and avoiding data breaches, according to a series of articles and commentaries in the Fall issue of Frontiers of Health Services Management, an official publication of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
