Revealing all the steps required to activate an enzyme called a protein kinase may identify new ways to target cancer, according to new University of Arizona-led research.
Bolder BioTechnology, Inc. today announced that it has been awarded a total of $1.2 million in Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project Grants. Grants were awarded for qualified investments under the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project Tax Credit Program, which authorized up to $1 billion in tax credits or grants to biopharmaceutical companies with 250 or fewer employees.
Dr. Joseph Bresee, chief of the epidemiology prevention branch at the influenza division at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said for the third consecutive week this season the percent of respiratory specimen testing positive for flu surpassed 10 percent, which is generally a marker to indicate the flu season has begun. "This is the latest start to a flu season in the past 29 years," said Dr. Bresee.
Even among patients who have taken aspirin in proximity to an image-guided percutaneous biopsy, risk of major bleeding associated with the procedure is low, according to a study in the March issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology (www.ajronline.org). Image-guided percutaneous biopsies are an important means of diagnosing disease in organs and other soft tissues. They involve the removal of cells or tissues for examination.
