Galectin Therapeutics, the leading developer of therapeutics that target galectin proteins to treat fibrosis and cancer, announced today that it submitted an Investigational New Drug (IND) application to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on January 30, 2013.
Chaetocin, a mycotoxin that increases oxidative stress, can complement the activity of tyrosine kinase inhibitors in chronic myeloid leukaemia by overcoming innate resistance mediated by secreted bone marrow stromal cytokines and growth factors, researchers report.
A group of researchers led by Professor Alvaro Mata from the University of Nottingham, along with others from Queen Mary University London, has successfully created a biomaterial that could be used for the creation of tissues that could form blood vessels. The study titled, "Disordered protein-graphene oxide co-assembly and supramolecular biofabrication of functional fluidic devices," was published in the latest issue of the journal Nature Communications.
The results showed that patients were far more likely to ask factual questions of all healthcare professionals, such as the length of their hospital stay, than they were to pose questions that might be perceived as challenging clinical abilities, such as whether that healthcare professional had washed his/her hands.
