Cochlear Limited, the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the Cochlear™ Nucleus® 6 Sound Processor for use with the Nucleus 22 Cochlear Implant, giving those who have worn cochlear implants from the beginning (over 20 years in some cases) access to the latest breakthroughs in true wireless and automatic hearing. Released in 1985, the Nucleus 22 Implant was the first commercially available multi-channel cochlear implant in the world.
New experiments that prevented rat sperm stem cells from changing permanently into sperm have brought researchers one step closer to coaxing such cells to behave like embryonic stem cells, capable of growing into many other types of cells in the body.
W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) reported the complete enrollment in a post-market approval study designed to better characterize the performance of the GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis with Heparin Bioactive Surface in treating peripheral vascular disease (PVD) of the superficial femoral artery (SFA). The 11 participating sites enrolled a total of 120 patients in the Gore VIPER (GORE® VIABAHN® Endoprosthesis with Heparin Bioactive Surface for SuPERficial Femoral Artery Endoluminal Bypass) Study since initiation.
The UTSA Institute for Health Disparities Research in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Division of Community Pediatrics have been awarded $900,000 in funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) for a collaborative project between a Minority-Serving Institution and Community-Based Organization(s) to prevent and reduce Substance Abuse (SA) and HIV/AIDS transmission among young adults.
President Obama said Monday that problems with the new health care website are unacceptable, but argued that the law overall will benefit millions of Americans. While Healthcare.gov "hasn't worked as as smooth as it was supposed to have worked," Obama said in a White House speech that thousands of once-uninsured Americans have signed up for coverage.
