EntreMed, Inc., a clinical-stage pharmaceutical company developing therapeutics for the treatment of a variety of cancers, announced the issuance of a U.S. patent covering methods of treatment and formulations for its clinical-stage compound, 2-methoxyestradiol.
In surprising results from a new survey it was noted that nearly half of family doctors want the freedom to have a relationship with a patient. One in six GPs thinks it is acceptable to have sex with one of their own patients, says the survey, while 48 per cent think it is OK to do so if the patient changes doctors.
An interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and the University of Houston has found a new way to influence the vital serotonin signaling system - possibly leading to more effective medications with fewer side effects.
"More intense rainfall, rising temperatures and climate-driven migration of human and animal populations due to repeated drought all affect the spread of tropical diseases," Inter Press Service writes in an article examining the impact of climate change on health, a topic that "generated debate among the experts attending the 18th International Congress on Tropical Medicine and Malaria, held Sept. 23-27 in Rio de Janeiro."
