Researchers have found that, contrary to prvious clinical trial findings, monthly injections to counteract age-related macular degeneration (AMD) may not be necessary.
Similar to other surgical procedures, orthopaedic surgery continues to progress toward more minimally invasive surgical techniques, with shorter inpatient length of stays and new opportunities for some procedures to shift to the outpatient care setting.
In the largest and most reliable study of its type, the University of Oxford (UK) and the University of Sydney (Australia) have demonstrated that statin therapy is not a cause of increased cancer rates and deaths. The conclusions of this study will reassure the millions of people worldwide who are taking statins to lower cholesterol levels, and clarifies earlier research that had raised concerns of a causal link.
Mice born to mothers who are fed a diet supplemented with B vitamins are less likely to develop intestinal tumors, report scientists at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (USDA HNRCA) at Tufts University.
To help Harris County target its preventive strategies for sudden unexpected infant death, researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston have identified areas of the county where these tragic deaths are most likely to occur.
