Rheonix to receive U.S. patent for powerful microfluidic platform

Rheonix, Inc., developer of the Rheonix CARD system that provides a powerful microfluidic platform for the evolving molecular diagnostics industry, announced that on June 14, 2011 the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will issue Patent Number 7,959,875, "Microfluidic Chips and Assay Systems," and on April 13, 2011 it allowed Patent Application Number 11/594,444, "Microfluidic Systems," to the Company.

In a large study of twins, Alzheimer's disease appears to be highly heritable and genetic factors may also influence timing of the disease, according to an article in the February Archives of General Psychiatry.

Ghana to contribute $1M to fight NTDs

Ghana "will contribute about $1 million towards the prevention and control of endemic neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in order to protect the gains made by the country in Guinea worm eradication and the elimination of trachoma," the country's health minister announced on Monday at the opening of a Regional Stakeholders' Consultative Meeting on NTDs, PANA/AfriqueJet reports. Health Minister Albin Bagbin "also called on African countries to support interventions to address NTDs and improve coordination among all stakeholders in implementing NTD programs," the news agency writes.
