In a new study, Dartmouth researchers describe the structure of a protein called ToxT that controls the virulent nature of Vibrio cholerae, the bacteria that causes cholera. Buried within ToxT, the researchers were surprised to find a fatty acid that appears to inhibit ToxT, which prevents the bacteria from causing cholera.
Three of the world's most respected medical associations for the treatment of thyroid disease recently issued joint guidelines for the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules. The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the Associazione Medici Endocrinologi and European Thyroid Association jointly published the guidelines online this week, and the executive summary will be published in the next issue of their respective journals.
