The Children's Environmental Literacy Foundation Wednesday honored two organizations who have developed ground-breaking products to help address the global water crisis at its 10th anniversary gala held at the Tribeca Rooftop.
A translational, multicenter study carried out by research groups of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute, San Juan de Dios Hospital, the University of Barcelona, Clinic Hospital, the University of Vic, Santa Creu i Sant Pau Hospital and the thematic area of Rare Diseases, has unveiled the potential of D-serine - a dietary supplement - to improve the neuronal function of a patient with a mutation of the glutamate receptors associated to atypical Rett syndrome with severe encephalopathy.
Researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College have shown that it is possible to immunize mammals to control fertility. They say their technique could possibly be used on other mammals - including humans - because fertility hormones and their receptors are species-non-specific and are similar in both females and males. For pets, the technique could be an alternative to castration and adverse effects of hormone administration.
It is a wide notion that men think of sex too often. A new study busts that myth. The research in college-age participants suggests that while men do think about sex more often than women, the subject crosses their mind an average of only about 19 times per day, compared to 10 times per day for women. The study is published online and in the January print issue of the Journal of Sex Research.
