As researchers learn more about how we age, they're finding that genetics are only half of the story when it comes to developing Alzheimer's disease.
A new study from a team of Chinese researchers has shown that controlling type 2 diabetes symptoms may produce many health benefits including a decreased risk of Alzheimer's disease.
UT Southwestern Medical Center cardiologists have uncovered how a specific protein's previously unsuspected role contributes to the deterioration of heart muscle in patients with diabetes. Investigators in the mouse study also have found a way to reverse the damage caused by this protein.
As a follow-up to the release of the State of the World's Vaccines and Immunization by the WHO, UNICEF and World Bank last month, The International examines the findings that "despite child vaccinations hitting a record-high with about 106 million infants being immunised this year, life-saving vaccines fail to reach some 24 million children in 72 of the world's poorest countries," many of whom, "are estimated to be most at risk from vaccine-preventable diseases," the publication writes.
