In an important study forthcoming in the March 2006 issue of the American Naturalist, biologists from Yale University, University of Florida, and Dartmouth University explore the dynamics of pathogen survival and shed new light on a longstanding mystery
The study spanned over eight-years and 245,000 admissions to 41 intensive care units throughout Australia to come to this conclusion. It is published in The Medical Journal of Australia. It also showed that this pattern persisted even after accounting for severity of illness.
A study by University of Virginia sociologists W. Bradford Wilcox and Steven L. Nock finds that the single most important factor in women's marital happiness is the level of their husbands' emotional engagement - not money, the division of household chores or other factors.
A new study by researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center and colleagues found that traditional risk factors for stroke - such as high cholesterol - are not as accurate at predicting risk in postmenopausal women as previously thought. Instead, researchers say doctors should refocus their attention on triglyceride levels to determine which women are at highest risk of suffering a devastating and potentially fatal cardiovascular event.
To make the inherent bitterness of cocoa in chocolate ice cream more palatable, manufacturers add high levels of fat and sugar. Yet, bitterness is an integral part of the complex flavor of chocolate.
