Retina Implant AG, a leading developer of subretinal implants for the visually impaired, today announced the opening of a new manufacturing plant to meet anticipated demand for their implants. The company's second human clinical trial will be expanding outside of Germany in early 2011 to European countries including the U.K. and Italy and discussions are underway for potential clinical trials in the United States and Asia. Iowa recorded 127 new HIV cases in 2007, a 12% increase from the 113 cases reported in 2006 and the highest number since the state began recording HIV/AIDS cases in 1998, according to a recently released Iowa Department of Public Health report, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports.
This Wednesday the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released guidelines regarding agency approval for certain types of new products to be obtained by tobacco-product makers. FDA announced that products such as cigarettes, roll-your-own tobacco and smokeless products that were introduced or changed after Feb. 15, 2007 must be reviewed by the agency to show that they are "substantially equivalent" to products commercially available on Feb. 15, 2007.
Roche Diagnostics announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Premarket Approval for its Elecsys Antibody to hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV) assay. The Elecsys Anti-HCV assay is an in-vitro diagnostic test for the qualitative detection of total antibodies to hepatitis C virus in human serum or plasma.
