Connecting with nature can improve your health and wellbeing, say researchers in this week's British Medical Journal (BMJ). The theory is known as ecotherapy: restoring health through contact with nature.
Women in their seventies who exercise and eat healthy amounts of fruits and vegetables have a longer life expectancy, according to research published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
UPI reports on a recent review article in the journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases that analyzed the toll of neglected tropical diseases on populations in sub-Saharan Africa. "Researchers said helminth (parasitic worm) infections account for approximately 85 percent of the neglected tropical diseases, which overall might be equivalent to more than double that caused by tuberculosis and as much as half of the area's malaria disease burden," the news service writes (8/26).
New Cancer Research UK figures out today reveal that stomach cancer cases in Great Britain have dropped by nearly half from around 14,000 in 1975 to 7,485 in 2006.
