Bartonella bacteria are disease-causing, blood-borne pathogens found in various mammal species. A study in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases by Hannah Frank and colleagues at Stanford University, California suggests that humans play an important role in disease risk, infection patterns, and distribution of Bartonella, advancing current understanding of Bartonella's evolutionary history and how the bacteria may be transmitted between humans and other animal species.
The Society of Gynecologic Oncologists has published its third in a series of four papers on a variety of cervical cancer issues and topics featured at "The Future Strategies for Cervical Cancer Prevention: What Do We Need to Do Now to Prepare" Forum. Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., will stand in the way of a proposal by Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., to attach a drug reimportation amendment to Dingell's food safety bill, which Dingell said "could derail the whole food safety effort," The Hill reports.
