Either you get overpaid or you don't get paid at all, that's how Queensland Health's casual staff seem to feel. Last week a payroll system which was blamed for overpaying the Queensland Health Staff was replaced with a new one. The new system cost $40 million to develop, but in the opinion of the staff is worse than the old one. A number of them have not been paid at all.
Metagenics, Inc. has been awarded two new patents for discoveries relating to its research on the anti-inflammatory properties of reduced iso-alpha acids (RIAA) derived from hops. Metagenics is a life sciences company focused on reversing chronic illness and improving health through therapeutic nutrition and lifestyle changes. The discoveries were made by researchers at Metagenics' wholly-owned biotechnology subsidiary, MetaProteomics® LLC.
Diabetics can face a five times increase in the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) than non-diabetics. This leads to a seven to ten year reduction in life expectancy and a higher probability of suffering a fatal heart attack. These sad statistics have prompted the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) to mark World Diabetes Day on 14 November 2010 by emphasising the simple measures that diabetes patients should adopt to slow-down the progression of CVD and greatly improve their quality of life.
