Subtle incentives can influence healthy food choices

Healthy eating habits are more important than ever, with advocates calling for fast-food restaurants, schools and food providers to promote the sale of salads and vegetables as alternatives to burgers and fries. According to new Cornell University research, the most effective strategy for influencing such healthy food choices is not calorie counts and reduced prices, but rather more subtle incentives that reward healthy eating behavior.

New e-health scheme could save thousands of lives and billions of dollars: report

In an analysis just released it is revealed that with an effective health IT system in place Australia would save up to 5,000 deaths and prevent two million GP and outpatient visits and 310,000 hospital admissions. This can also save up to $7.6bn in health costs annually. The savings would include $2.6 bn each year in medication errors, $2.3bn from improved care and prevention. There will be a reduction in unnecessary lab tests by more than 7.3 million, X rays by over 3 million.

VIVUS seeks marketing approval of QNEXA in the EU

VIVUS, Inc. today announced that the company filed a Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) with the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for QNEXA® (phentermine/topiramate) Controlled Release Capsules in the European Union (EU).
