The 7th annual Ryan Phua Memorial Kids' Ride, featuring more than 700 kids of all ages, will once again provide one of the key highlights at the 24th annual Burlingame Criterium, set for Sunday, June 27, 2010. The race activities will fill the streets, restaurants and shops of downtown Burlingame with thousands of competitive cyclists, children, volunteers and spectators. Adding to the excitement of Ryan's Ride, the day's multiple races will culminate in a Men's pro event and a separate Women's pro event.
Using state-of-the-art gene editing technology, scientists from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago have discovered a promising target to treat atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) – a highly aggressive and therapy resistant brain tumor that mostly occurs in infants.
Intriguing antitumor activity is found in a very promising class of natural compounds: cyclic depsipeptides, which have a challenging structure that makes their investigation difficult. Now, Chinese scientists have established the synthesis of a member compound, which is especially promising in killing pancreatic cancer stem cells.
Cancer therapies often have short-lived benefits due to the emergence of genetic mutations that cause drug resistance. A key gene that determines resistance to a range of cancer drugs has been reported in a study published by Cell Press November 21st in the journal Cell.
Alternate-day fasting diets are just as effective as diets that restrict calories every day, researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago report.
