The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced its action plan for strengthening the way it monitors the safety of medical devices after they reach the marketplace.
Results of a small study from Japan in this week's issue of THE LANCET suggest that the emergence of influenza viruses which are resistant to a widely used influenza drug may be more common than previously thought.
Millions of individuals worldwide are exposed to shift work and numerous environmental conditions that disturb circadian clock function and disrupt normal circadian rhythms. Environmental conditions associated with disrupted circadian rhythms greatly increase the risk for development of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome and also hinder the treatment and management of hyperglycemia in existing patients with diabetes.
Nationally, rates of early childhood caries, or tooth decay, among Hispanic, American Indian, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander children are almost double those of white children, making it the most prevalent chronic disease among these populations-occurring five times as frequently as asthma.
Free clinics across the U.S. provide care to about 1.8 million mostly uninsured patients annually and the majority of clinics receive no government support, according to the first comprehensive survey of all known free clinics since the 1960s.
