A thought-provoking preprint research paper posted to the medRxiv server suggests that among several factors that could potentially contribute to the design of an optimal vaccine strategy aimed at the most significant possible reduction in COVID-19 mortality, timing is likely to be the most important factor.
Merge Healthcare, a health IT solutions provider, announced today that it has commenced a tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of common stock in AMICAS, Inc., a leader in image and information management solutions. The tender offer is being commenced as provided in the previously announced definitive merger agreement between Merge and AMICAS dated as of February 28, 2010, under which a subsidiary of Merge will acquire all of the outstanding shares of AMICAS, Inc.
In a letter to the CEOs of UnitedHealth Group Inc., WellPoint Inc., Aetna Inc., Health Care Service Corporation and CIGNA HealthCare Inc., U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius called on the executives to publicly justify proposed health insurance premium increases. Sebelius' letter comes after a meeting last week with these executives at the White House.

In research published online June 18th in Current Biology, researchers report that two genes, originally known for their regulation of cell division, are required for normal slumber in fly models of sleep: taranis and Cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (Cdk1).
