It was a year ago that the Ebola virus outbreak in the Congo became official. And far from subsiding, just two weeks ago it became "a public health emergency of international concern". DePuy Synthes Spine announced it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use of its EXPEDIUM®, VIPER®, and VIPER®2 Spine Systems on patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), an abnormal curvature of the spine that typically affects children between the ages of 10 and 18.(1) This expands the scoliosis indication for the pedicle screw systems, which now are indicated for both adolescents and adults.
Impax Pharmaceuticals, the brand products division of Impax Laboratories, Inc., today announced that it has completed enrollment of its APEX-PD trial. APEX-PD is a multinational Phase III trial of its late-stage drug candidate IPX066 in subjects with early Parkinson's disease.
The most common drug used to treat Alzheimer's disease increases bone mass in mice, according to one of the first research articles published in the new open access journal Heliyon. The authors of the study, from Saitama Medical University in Japan, say this means the drug could also be used to treat bone loss diseases like osteoporosis and periodontitis, following further clinical research.
