Intellipharmaceutics International Inc., today announced that it has filed an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval to market a generic of the 30 mg strength of Focalin XR® (dexmethylphenidate hydrochloride). The application for the 30 mg strength is filed as an amendment to the ANDA that Intellipharmaceutics had previously filed for the 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg strengths of the drug.
For as many as 200 million people worldwide infected with hepatitis C, a leading cause of chronic liver disease, treatment options are only partially effective. But new research by Rockefeller University scientists points to a potential new target for better drugs: a key protein that resides in human liver cells that hepatitis C requires for entry.

Responding to today's news that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Antiviral Advisory Committee has approved Pfizer Inc.'s AIDS therapy, Selzentry (maraviroc), for use in therapy-naïve patients, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) strongly criticized Pfizer for its current pricing of the drug at an Average Wholesale Price (AWP) of $13,767 per-patient per-year—which, if this price remains when use is expanded, would make it the most expensive first-line AIDS drug on the market.
