CANCER RESEARCH UK scientists have shed light on how a common class of painkillers - which includes ibuprofen - may interact with a key protein that fuels the growth of many different types of cancer, according to a study published in the journal Chemical Communications today.
According to a major investment bank there would be no smokers in Britain by 2050. According to Citigroup analyst Adam Spielman the decline is sharp and sure and would show up as no smokers in 30 to 50 years time. The analyses used data to reveal that the percentage of adult smokers in the UK has fallen from 53 per cent in 1960 to 21 per cent in 2008. Spielman said, "If these trends continue, then by 2050 many important tobacco markets will have gone to zero smoking."
Dr. Bruce Bode announced today that he is now recruiting adults with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes for Protege Encore, a randomized, placebo-controlled Phase III clinical trial. This is the second of two Phase III studies testing the safety and efficacy of an investigational drug called teplizumab. The first study, known as Protege, has completed enrollment of more than 530 subjects with type 1 diabetes.
The Cancer Research Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fueling the discovery and development of immunotherapies for all forms of cancer, will bestow its highest honors on three scientists who have made fundamental contributions to the fields of immunology and cancer immunotherapy.
