New research refines existing evidence that survivors of childhood Hodgkin lymphoma face an elevated risk of developing various types of solid tumors many years later.
The Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) appreciates that today's provincial budget contains measures to support long term care homes in maintaining care and service levels to over 76,000 of Ontario's oldest and frailest citizens. Researchers at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh found that infusing umbilical cord blood - a readily available source of stem cells - safely and effectively treated 44 children born with various non-cancerous genetic disorders, including sickle cell, thalassemia, Hunter syndrome, Krabbe disease, metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) and an array of immune deficiencies.
