Today (8 January 2018) at the annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, Edico Genome and Genomics England announced a new partnership to strengthen the accuracy and consistency of next-generation sequencing data analysis in Genomics England's Rare Disease Pilot.
As part of a multinational, collaborative effort, researchers from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and scores of other institutions from all over the world have helped identify over 100 locations in the human genome associated with the risk of developing schizophrenia, in what is the largest genomic study published on any psychiatric disorder to date.
While Florey researchers have also created a genetic test for Parkinson's Disease (PD) [10% of PD cases are caused by genetic factors], this new test has a broader application by screening for many different types of PD and monitoring treatment, as well as measuring the effectiveness of drugs being developed to treat the disease.
