A new study finds that in regions where indigenous Australians most readily accepted a government incentive to lower drug copayments, hospitalizations to treat the population's chronic conditions declined by 40 percent in just two years.
Johns Hopkins researchers say they have identified a set of genes that appear to predict which tumors can evade detection by the body's immune system, a step that may enable them to eventually target only the patients most likely to respond best to a new class of treatment.
Breast cancer is one of the most aggressive types of cancers in the world. It is the commonest cause of cancer death in women worldwide, and it represented about 12 percent of all new cancer cases in 2012. Current predictions and statistics suggest that both worldwide incidence of breast cancer and related mortality are on the rise. Globally, breast cancer now represents one in four of all cancers in women.
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration permitted marketing of the Miris Human Milk Analyzer, a new diagnostic test to aid healthcare professionals in measuring nutrients in breast milk, including the concentration of fat, carbohydrate, protein, total solids and energy.
