Avedro Inc., a Boston-based ophthalmic medical device and pharmaceutical company, announces today that the first patients have been treated in two new US clinical trials: Lasik with Cross-linking and Pulsed Accelerated Cross-linking.
In an analysis of a cohort that included nearly one million patients who had visited an ophthalmologist, patients who were taking oral fluoroquinolones had a higher risk of developing a retinal detachment, a serious eye condition, compared with nonusers, although the absolute risk was small, according to a study in the April 4 issue of JAMA.
Severely ill patients with advanced heart failure who received a novel heart pump—the HeartMate 3 left ventricular assist device— suffered significantly fewer strokes, pump-related blood clots and bleeding episodes after two years, compared with similar patients who received an older, more established pump, according to research presented at the American College of Cardiology's 68th Annual Scientific Session.
All babies should be put to their mother's breast within an hour of their birth for breast feeding recommends the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The first milk or the colostrum is known to have several health and nutritional benefits for the baby.
