Lonza Pharma & Biotech and Innosieve Diagnostics announced today an exclusive distribution agreement for rapid bioburden testing technology. Researchers funded by the National Institutes of Health have developed an experimental vaccine that reduces stillbirths among rodents born to mothers infected with cytomegalovirus (CMV) - a common virus that can also cause mental retardation and hearing loss in newborn children who were infected in early fetal life.
A survey of 6,300 graduates from around the globe found that nearly four in ten of them suffer from mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. This was the fifth and latest such survey, whose results appeared this week in the journal Nature.
For the first time, medication has impacted heart muscle thickness and function for patients with the most common inherited heart condition, rather than simply addressing their symptoms.
Professor Jane Irvine, of York University's psychology department, is helping those heart patients who must use miniature implanted defibrillators to cope with the psychological stress caused by these devices. Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs) are programmed to electrically shock the heart in the event of a life threatening heart rhythm incident.
