The World Health Organization (WHO has come up with a list of 10 major threats that are to affect the global population in 2019. Some of these include problems arising from air pollution and climate change which is slated to be the top threat.
Following the recent launch of the Tosca 400 atomic force microscope, the leading scientific equipment manufacturing company Anton Paar is today announcing the launch of Tosca analysis software, based on Digital Surf's Mountains surface analysis technology.
Revenues for the US and European medical technology industry grew 11% in 2008 despite the global recession. Revenue growth flattened out in the first half of 2009 and the industry will face significant challenges as it seeks to maintain long-term momentum, including a stubborn funding drought for early-stage companies and a changing global regulatory and reimbursement environment.
Kaiser Health News staff writer Christopher Weaver reports: "Competition is fiercest in places like Boston, where high-ranking plans are near their goal, but shades of this quality arms race are visible throughout the country. Insurers have rarely competed on quality measures, but as the federal government prepares to unleash an estimated $3 billion to $4 billion next year in bonus payments, the industry is following the money. Star-ratings are bleeding into bottom lines, board meetings, and corporate strategy as the insurers chase top scores."
Researchers at Keele University, UK, have been awarded funding from Arthritis Research UK to find out more about the effectiveness of common treatments for carpal tunnel syndrome, a painful, common condition affecting trapped nerves in the hand and wrists.
