GlaxoSmithKline and Human Genome Sciences, Inc. announced today that the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use has issued a positive opinion, recommending marketing authorisation for BENLYSTA (belimumab) as an add-on therapy in adult patients with active autoantibody-positive systemic lupus erythematosus, with a high degree of disease activity, despite standard therapy.
Scientists at Joslin Diabetes Center have found genetic regions that, when defective, allow the immune system to attack the pancreas - the first in a series of mis-steps that lead to type 1 diabetes.
