Santarus, Inc., a specialty biopharmaceutical company, today announced that its collaboration partner, Cosmo Technologies Ltd., a subsidiary of Cosmo Pharmaceuticals SpA (SIX: COPN), has completed enrollment of 514 patients in the European Phase III clinical trial to evaluate budesonide MMX® administered over eight weeks for the induction of remission of mild or moderate active ulcerative colitis.
Researchers found that the bacteria S. mutans, as well as fungal organisms of the genus Candida, cultured from HIV patients, were highly susceptible to killing with minimal doses of PDT, both in laboratory dishes and on biofilms grown on denture material.
The findings are a significant improvement over a 2005 study conducted by the same research team, in which more than 40 percent of public health employees said they were unlikely to report to work during a pandemic emergency. The new study suggests ways for improving the response of the public health workforce. The results are published in the July 24 edition of the journal PLoS ONE.
