Health Care Service Corporation is offering physicians and healthcare facilities access to a new tool that will assist them in identifying health risks for 9 million patients across the country. The CareProfile® is an electronic health record (EHR) created with the collaborative input of MEDecision, Availity and HCSC's Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The director of the National Institute of Mental Health says the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-5 lacks validity, and his organization plans to launch a possible replacement diagnostic tool.
Investigators have identified a gene that underlies a very rare but devastating autoinflammatory condition in children. Several existing drugs have shown therapeutic potential in laboratory studies, and one is currently being studied in children with the disease, which the researchers named STING-associated vasculopathy with onset in infancy (SAVI).
