Researchers evaluate risk factors and outcomes for young adults with familial hypercholesterolemia

Heart attacks among adults younger than 50 years of age are on the rise. In fact, the proportion of very young people has been increasing, rising by 2 percent each year for the last 10 years, according to a team of investigators a Brigham and Women's Hospital who are focused on studying heart attacks among young adults.

Moderate drinking reduces men's heart attack risk

Even as studies have consistently found an association between moderate alcohol consumption and reduced heart attack risk in men, an important question has persisted: What if the men who drank in moderation were the same individuals who maintained good eating habits, didn't smoke, exercised and watched their weight - How would you know that their reduced risk of myocardial infarction wasn't the result of one or more of these other healthy habits?

Macroplastique effective for stress urinary incontinence in women

Uroplasty, Inc. highlighted results from a two-year, multicenter clinical study of Macroplastique that will be published in the April 2010 print edition of The Journal of Urology(R). The 24-month study evaluated the durability of Macroplastique for stress urinary incontinence in women with previously documented success at 12 months. Substantial, durable results were sustained during 2 years with 84% of patients maintaining significant improvement from their 12-month assessment. Additionally, 67% of the patients implanted with Macroplastique were dry at the 24-month follow-up visit.
