Treatment for urea cycle disorders proves its worth 25 years later

The simple notion of copying the body's own natural "waste disposal" chemistry to mop up potentially toxic nitrogen has saved an estimated 80 percent of patients with urea cycle disorders -- most of them children, according to a report in the New England Journal of Medicine summarizing a quarter century of experience with the treatment.

AHF schedules safer sex awareness events to mark International Condom Day on Feb 13th

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization which currently provides medical care and services to more than 127,000 individuals in 22 countries worldwide, will mark International Condom Day—an informal holiday observed in conjunction with Valentine's Day, February 14th—with innovative and educational free condom distribution and safer sex awareness events as well as media campaigns held in 32 cities in 13 countries around the world that will be taking place over the days and nights around the weekend holiday.

State lawmakers consider Medicaid changes

The Houston Chronicle: "Some Republicans who talk about Texas potentially opting out of Medicaid are quick to say the changes wouldn't throw people out on the street — but not House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jim Pitts." Pitts didn't advocate the Medicaid change but "gave a stark answer when an audience member asked about an ill friend who is on Medicaid."
