Clinical trial results of ArterX presented at Veith Meeting

US clinical trial results for Tenaxis' investigational vascular surgical sealant, ArterX, were presented today at the Veith Meeting in New York. William M. Stone, MD of the Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale AZ reported a more than 20% margin of improvement for ArterX Surgical Sealant in the sealing of vascular suture lines compared with a control group featuring a commercially available gelatin foam/thrombin combination.

Researchers find that exercise may slow tumor growth, improve chemotherapy

One way many cancers grow resistant to treatment is by generating a web of blood vessels that are so jumbled they fail to provide adequate oxygen to the tumor. With oxygen starvation, the tumor gains a sort of cloaking device that protects it from the toxic effects of chemotherapy drugs and radiation, which are designed to seek out well-oxygenated tissue.

The American Dietetic Association has published an updated position paper on nutrition assistance programs for children that reviews existing programs and their value, discusses barriers to participation and encourages more research to evaluate the programs' long-term effectiveness in helping children get and stay healthy.

Risk of suicide among OCD patients much higher than previously thought

Patients with OCD are 10 times more likely to commit suicide, contrary to what was previously thought. In a new study from Karolinska Institutet published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, is also shown that the main predictor of suicide in OCD patients is a previous suicide attempt, which offers opportunities for prevention.
