MGH researchers discover massive overexpression of DNA sequences in cancer cells

Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center researchers have discovered a previously unknown feature of common tumor cells - massive overexpression of certain DNA sequences that do not code for proteins.

FDA grants priority review for Bayer HealthCare's riociguat for treatment of CTEPH

Bayer HealthCare announced today that the New Drug Application for its oral investigational compound riociguat has been accepted for filing and granted priority review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of inoperable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension or with persistent or recurrent CTEPH after pulmonary endarterectomy and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Examining sequestration's effects on global health spending

"Although we're several days into sequestration, details about the full impact of funding cuts are still hazy," Kim Lufkin, communications officer of the Global Health Technologies Coalition, writes in the group's "Breakthroughs" blog, noting, "On [March 1], the Office of Management and Budget released a report to Congress, which details funding cuts required to offset $85 billion in the fiscal year 2013 budget."
