Study shows that steroids target hemangioma stem cells

Hemangiomas - strawberry-like birthmarks that commonly develop in early infancy - are generally harmless, but up to 10 percent cause tissue distortion or destruction and sometimes obstruction of vision or breathing. Since the 1960s, problematic hemangiomas have been treated with corticosteroids such as dexamethasone or prednisone.

Caution urged in reducing opioids for pain

After years and decades in which healthcare providers were freely prescribing opiates for all sorts of painful conditions, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published guidelines to help bring down opioid prescription rates and with them, addiction and overdose-related death rates. Though these were not binding, they urged physicians to be cautious in dealing with opioids when prescribing for pain.

Raw and cooked gingers reduce pain associated with muscle injury by 24%: Reed's

Reed's, Inc., maker of the top-selling sodas in natural food stores nationwide, commented today on a recent study in The Journal of Medicine that both raw and cooked ginger reduce pain associated with muscle injury by about 24%, compared with placebo. The study was supported by the McCormick Science Institute.

The Singaporean government's emphasis on raising awareness on the benefit of frequent health check-ups have significantly raised the number of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) diagnosed cases in the country, expanding the patient pool.
