High levels of physical activity can reduce your risk of stroke

High levels of physical activity, such as running, swimming or heavy gardening during leisure time can reduce your risk of stroke, according to a study reported in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association. In addition, walking or biking to and from work for up to 29 minutes a day may also reduce the risk of strokes caused by a blood clot (ischemic stroke).

Diamedix, LABSCO sign distribution agreement for instrumentation systems and test kits

IVAX Diagnostics, Inc., a fully integrated in vitro diagnostics company, announced that Diamedix Corporation, IVAX Diagnostics' wholly-owned subsidiary located in Miami, Florida, has signed a three-year agreement with Laboratory Supply Company, the largest privately held supplier of diagnostic instrumentation and clinical laboratory products to hospitals, physician office laboratories, reference labs and other non-acute care settings in the United States.

Preliminary Phase 2 data of TZP-102 for diabetic gastroparesis to be presented at ACG annual meeting

Tranzyme Pharma announced today that John Wo, MD, Professor of Medicine and Director, Clinical Research, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY, will present preliminary TZP-102 Phase 2 data at this year's ACG annual meeting. The event is being held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio TX, October 15-20, 2010. Professor Wo is scheduled to speak on Wednesday, October 20th at 8:50am in Ballroom C1.

Study: 18% of children with ADHD suffered from depression as adolescents

Children diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at ages 4 to 6 are more likely to suffer from depression as adolescents than those who did not have ADHD at that age, according to a long-term study published in the October issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry. Although it was an uncommon occurrence, the children with ADHD also were somewhat more likely to think about or attempt suicide as adolescents.
