Molecular technology company GNA Biosolutions GmbH and its project partners announced the launch of PITBUL, a European Commission funded international research project aimed at developing a tuberculosis (TB) diagnostic platform to be utilized at the Point of Care.
In a study of older mice, wolfberries appear to interact with the influenza vaccine to offer additional protection against the flu virus. The research, led by scientists at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (USDA HNRCA) at Tufts University, suggests the wolfberry may increase the activity of dendritic cells, which play an important role in the ability of the immune system to defend against viral infections.
A 27-year-old South Australian Riverland man has succumbed to Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE) – a viral disease that is carried by mosquitoes. According to SA Health's chief medical officer Paddy Phillips, the man had been receiving hospital care for MVE since March.
When the surgeon surgically removes a melanoma, some patients are said to be 'cancer-free' and they do not get additional treatment.
