Burdens related to poor sleep may put men with sleep apnea at increased risk of erectile dysfunction. In a study of 713 male patients who visited Seoul National University Hospital for snoring and/or daytime sleepiness from 2006 to 2014, depressive symptoms and a low quality of life due to sleep problems were clearly linked to erectile dysfunction.
The American Civil Liberties Union says in court papers that some for-profit nursing home operators are using "scare tactics" to persuade psychiatric patients to stay in their facilities. "The action follows a historic court settlement in which Illinois authorities pledged to offer supportive community-based housing and treatment to roughly 4,500 psychiatric patients who now live in two dozen large nursing homes designated as Institutions for Mental Diseases.
When we think about people with heart disease we usually think about middle-aged men. In reality, atherosclerotic heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in North America, but its impact starts much earlier than adulthood. Though children will rarely, if ever, have overt symptoms of atherosclerosis, the first signs of this disease appear in early childhood and perhaps even before birth.
The frequency of analgesic drug errors in hospitals is nearly 3 per 1,000 prescriptions, based on a study performed in a 631-bed tertiary care facility and published in The Journal of Pain, the peer-review journal of the American Pain Society.
In the current study, the authors evaluate several different competitive ELISAs that could be used to measure serum antibodies.
