Bausch + Lomb's sub-micron loteprednol etabonate ophthalmic gel meets primary endpoint

Bausch + Lomb, a wholly owned subsidiary of Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. Brown fat could be the key to healthy metabolism in obese people

Not all forms are obesity are the same and brown fat could make all the difference. A study led by Florian Kiefer's research group from the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the Department of Medicine III at MedUni Vienna and Vienna General Hospital shows that people who are seriously overweight (obese) who also have active brown fat have a healthier metabolism and use more energy than obese people without brown fat.

FDA alerts health care providers to no longer implant heart failure patients with Medtronic's HVAD System

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting health care providers to no longer implant end-stage heart failure patients with Medtronic's Heartware Ventricular Assist Device (HVAD) System due to a growing body of observational clinical comparisons that demonstrates a higher frequency of neurological adverse events and mortality associated with the system when compared to other commercially available devices, as well as complaints that the internal pump may delay or fail to restart.
