Dual therapy improves cardiac outcomes in pediatric patients suffering from MIS-C

A recent study by a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists and infectious disease specialists at Children's Hospital Colorado (Children's Colorado) found that pediatric patients suffering from Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C) who received initial, intensified therapy consisting of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) plus Infliximab had improved cardiac outcomes versus those who received IVIG alone.

Early delivery due to scrapping of ‘baby cheque' poses risks to babies

A study by Libertad González, professor with the Department of Economics and Business at UPF and the Barcelona GSE; Cristina Borra and Almudena Sevilla, found that children born prematurely due to the scrapping of the "baby cheque" weighed less at birth and had 20% more hospitalizations, especially due to respiratory problems, although the negative effects seem to dissipate after the second month of life.

Consumption of caffeinated coffee and alcohol reduces risk of contracting late onset diabetes

In a very large cohort of African-American women in the US, the association between the consumption of alcohol, tea, and coffee and the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (late onset diabetes) was studied for 12 years. Tea and decaffeinated coffee showed no relation with diabetes, but the regular moderate intake of both caffeinated coffee and alcohol appeared to reduce the risk of contracting late onset diabetes significantly.
