The WHO has disputed a study published last week in the Lancet "that claims nearly twice as many people are dying of malaria than current estimates," VOA News reports.
Camp Okizu, a non-profit camp in northern California for kids with cancer and their families, has a new benefactor for its weekend program for families of children with brain tumors. In honor of Silicon Valley executive James W. Hebert, who died from a brain tumor at age 54 in 2006, his wife, Ronni Sarmanian, also a former tech executive, has committed to sponsor the event. This annual event, which will be called the James W. Hebert Family Camp, begins April 16 and coincides with Hebert's birthday, April 13.
Administering a new form of immunotherapy to children with neuroblastoma, a nervous system cancer, increased the percentage of those who were alive and free of disease progression after two years, according to researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and fellow institutions.
After the scare that some French breast implants may be faulty and may need removal at the government's expense the national health insurance agency will file a criminal complaint. The implants, made by now-defunct French company Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), were pulled from the market last year in countries around Europe and South America amid fears they could rupture and leak silicone into the body.
The report concluded that these weaknesses in the American health system are having a "profound effect" on the overall health of the nation's population.
