Aeterna Zentaris Inc. today announced that data from two Phase 2 trials in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) for the Company's oral anticancer drug, perifosine, have been published in the June 2012 issue of Cancer, a publication of the American Cancer Society.
The Trinity Infection Prevention team from Iowa/Illinois Trinity Medical Center has come up with the novel idea of using duct tape to reduce infections and save up to $110,000. For this they received the Blue Ribbon Abstract Award. They presented their work, "The Red Box Strategy: An Innovative Method to Improve Isolation Precaution Compliance and Reduce Costs" which received the designation at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology's 2011 Annual Conference and International Meeting June27-29 in Baltimore.
GlaxoSmithKline has announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Twinrix [Hepatitis A Vaccine (Inactivated) and Hepatitis B (Recombinant) Vaccine], for an accelerated dosing schedule that consists of three doses given within three weeks followed by a booster dose at 12 months.
Bloomberg Businessweek examines how ongoing trade negotiations related to the Trans-Pacific Partnership could affect access to quality low-cost medications, including antiretrovirals, in low- and middle-income countries. "Protecting the patents of drug makers ... as part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership has drawn criticism from groups such as Doctors Without Borders and Public Citizen," and "the proposed accord has also spurred calls from U.S. lawmakers for greater transparency about the negotiations," the news service writes.
